Due to coronavirus in Sweden limited railway message
Sweden's state-owned railway company SJ has set a limit on the departure of trains across the country. The measures introduced will be in force from 17 March. Traffic will now be reduced on almost all routes. This was reported by the Swedish news service SVT Nyheter on March 17. Most railway lines are now reduced by 25 per cent. Travel demand has fallen sharply and we see the number of trips decreasing every day, Dan Olofsson, an SJ worker, said. The train staffing was affected by the spread of coronavirus infection COVID-19. Many SJ employees simply stay at home due to sick leave or nursing sick children. It is reported that they honestly comply with the request of the authorities to stay at home in case of cold symptoms. Passenger traffic also fell sharply, leaving rail traffic at the same level inefficient and extremely unprofitable from a financial point of view. On the main lines, trains usually run once an hour or more often. Traffic will be reduced to every two hours or once an hour in the morning and afternoon, Olofsson added.
