In prisons of Georgia will start taking parcels

From 20 May, all types of parcels, including clothing, shoes, personal consumption items, food and others, will be resumed in all institutions of the Georgian prison system, the special prison service of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia reported on 20 May. With the entry into force of this decision, the first phase of lifting the restrictions imposed in the prison system in connection with the coronavirus pandemic began. At the same time, all things and items (except food) that will be transferred to prisoners will be disinfected beforehand. To this end, special mobile groups have been established, which will process the contents of parcels with the help of a special solution safe for human health and having an appropriate international certificate, the message reads. And since such processing takes a certain time, the process of transferring parcels to prisoners can be delayed for several hours, explained in the special prison service. Disinfection of parcels is the first step that the service takes to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the prison system, and similar measures will be expanded in the future, the report reads. Special conditions in the prison system were introduced on 5 March. The order of the Chief of Service suspended visits of prisoners with relatives, short-term exit from prisons, and prohibited the reception of parcels and mail from the will (except letters). The state of emergency introduced in Georgia in connection with coronavirus on 21 March is valid until 22 May inclusive. As the Prime Minister of Georgia Georgy Gakharia said earlier, on the basis of the analysis of the epiditation in the country, the Government decided not to appeal to the President and Parliament to extend the PE regime.
