Cyprus religious leaders condemn the actions of vandals who attacked the mosque
Leaders of the Muslim communities of Cyprus, the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Maronite Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Church condemned the acts of vandals in the city of Limassol. This is stated in the joint statement of the leaders. We categorically condemn any acts of vandalism and disrespect that are committed against sacred places of worship, the message reads. Religious leaders stressed that the actions of those who attacked the mosque in Limassol were acts of violence, xenophobia and discrimination. Earlier, on 31 May, a group of people threw Molotov cocktails at the Köprülu Mosque in Limassol and painted anti-Islamic and anti-migrant slogans at the fence. The Head of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiades, instructed the relevant agencies to investigate the incident and punish the perpetrators.
