The UN requested additional information on the water supply of Crimea
Additional information on the water supply of Crimea was requested by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet. On September 1, Natalya Poklonskaya (United Russia), deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told reporters. According to her, the organization was also interested in Ukraine's blocking of water supplies through the North Crimean Canal. The letter proposed cooperation in providing additional information on the issue of access of Crimeans to water and the situation with water supply on the peninsula, the deputy said. Poklonskaya added that the request from the UN came three and a half months after she sent an appeal to condemn the criminal actions of Kiev, which unilaterally blocked the supply of water to the Crimea. As previously reported by the news agency, up to 85% of the peninsula's fresh water needs were provided through the North Crimean Canal, coming from the Dnieper. However, after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, Kiev stopped the supply of water to the region unilaterally.
